A fun, warm, big-water day trip. Put on at or near Clearwater Lake taking your pick of grade III waterfall hucks. Enjoy several Kilometers of fun bouncy big water and a few surfwaves before arriving at Myanth Falls(IV). This is a 200m long rapid with a series of holes, ledges, and diagonals. You will know you have arrived here by the sound and and horizon line as you pass through a grade II canyon section. Skirt right around the canyon wall to eddy and scout. Pick your line and have fun :) after a few minutes you reach the Grade V-V+ Donkey falls, scout/portage on river right or if you plan on portaging all of the lower drops you can eddy river left and hook up with the hiking trail for some easier trudging(20min to parking lot). Next up is grade V+-VI Marcus Falls, scout/portage on river right. If you aren't already on the river left side of the river you will need to ferry across below Marcus falls to avoid Bailey's chute. This ferry is pretty straight forward but you absolutely do not want to blow it as the river feeds into Bailey's Chute (VI) several hundred meters below. The hike out is along a well defined and maintained hiking trail for 10 minutes from Bailey's Chute.
If this space is blank there have been no alerts posted for this specific river.
From Highway 5 near Clearwater turn North at the Clearwater/Wells Grey Tourist Information Centre onto Clearwater Valley road. Follow for 58Km to Bailey's Chute parking lot (well signed).
From Bailey's Chute Parking lot continue North on Clearwater Valley Road for 8.5 Km to the Falls Creek Campground. There are 3 Put in options:
Put-In #1 - Falls Creek. Falls Creek flows through the campground and pours ~5m into the Clearwater River, this is a nice clean drop and a refreshing way to start the run. Put in at the pedestrian bridge near the “Naturalist Hut”.
Put-In #2 - Falls Creek Campground Lookout Point - If you're not feeling up to the falls follow the signs for the look-out point which is a wooden structure upstream of the Clearwater/Falls Creek confluence that provides scenic views of the Clearwater River and Osprey Falls(coming out of Clearwater lake). From here it is easy to scramble 10m down to the river
Put-In #3 - Osprey Falls - Put on Clearwater Lake at the picnic area at Falls Creek Campground, paddle 200m towards the horizon line at the South end of the lake. To scout the falls take out at the log jam/island on river left of Osprey Falls. Have a look and go huck the 3m drop. If you're feeling keen you can take out at the lookout point (put-in #2) and hike up to paddle Falls Creek as well.
Big water fun with several waterfall options and a few portages near the end
